At present the U.S. is not allowing adoptive families to initiate an adoption in Cambodia. Therefore, we are only assigning children to families who are not U.S. citizens.
Infants and toddlers are available. All children must be registered with an orphanage for three months; therefore, babies are at least four months old when placed with a family. Although infants are sometimes available, mostly toddlers are available right now through CAROLINA HOPE Christian Adoption Agency's program.
Children older than 8 years old cannot be adopted unless they have a younger sibling who is adopted with the older sibling.
Sibling groups of no more than two children can be adopted. There is a slightly higher fee schedule for those adopting infants.
Once you are BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services) approved and your dossier is submitted to Cambodia, you can expect to travel in less than two months.
The first step is to complete your dossier and receive approval from BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services). CAROLINA HOPE will assist you in this step. Once you accept a referral, your documents are sent overseas to be translated and filed in Cambodia. About two months later, you can travel to Cambodia to receive your child.
A digital picture of the child is sent to you as well as a medical report.
- Medical reports are provided from Cambodia.
- The adoption process moves very quickly, and in about six months you can bring home your child.
Only one parent needs to travel to Cambodia. You fly to Phnom Penh and stay in a luxury hotel for about five days. You will receive your child as soon as you arrive in Cambodia. You must be prepared to stay up to 10 days.
- The total adoption fee is $11,580 for one child; this includes $1,000 donation in humanitarian aid.
The fees include translations and mailing documents. These fees do not include the home study reports, BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services) fees and visas, travel to and from Cambodia, or your lodging and food in Cambodia. You may also have a private chauffeur for about $30 per day for transportation around Phnom Phenm.
If two parents travel and adopt one child, they can expect to spend about $2,500 to $3,000 for travel and hotel expenses.
