Brazil Adoption

Who can adopt?

Married couples and single women can adopt. You must be at least 16 years older than your child. Because this program is operated by missionaries only evangelical Christians can adopt through this program.

What age children are available?

Children from about eight years old to 14 years old are available. You will be given as much information about the child's social and medical background as possible. All the children are living in orphanages.

Children are available from orphanages about twenty miles outside of Sao Paulo. Missionaries assist in the operation of these orphanages.

How long does to take to adopt?

About 45 - 90 days after your child is assigned to you, and all of your paperwork is in Brazil, you can expect to travel to adopt your child. Brazil has many holidays, which can slow down the process, so the estimation of travel is difficult.

How is a child assigned to me?

Brazilian Adoption Children are in group homes operated by missionaries. These children are usually older. You will receive a picture and a medical report of your child. Photos of children are usually available.

What are the advantages of adopting from Brazil?

You get to select a child based on the child's age, coloring, and health status. You will be given as much background information as possible from those who know the child. Each child is well cared for in a warm, Christian environment. Your trip to Brazil is relatively simple. You fly to Sao Paulo on a night flight and arrive in the morning. You are then driven about 20 miles to the orphanage to meet your child. You will stay in comfortable accommodations, and because Brazil is a magnificent country, and you will get to see many wonderful tourist sites during your 30-40 day stay.

Who must travel to Brazil?

Brazilian Adoption One parent will have to be in the country for nearly three weeks. The government wants to be sure that you and your child are well suited to each other and that you have plenty of time to transition before your child goes home with you. Once the adoption is complete, the parent can leave and the other parent must be there while the child gets his new birth certificate, passport, and visa.

Although having to be in a country for about month may initially seem like a disadvantage, this country has so many spectacular sites and beautiful beaches that your adoption experience can also be a dream vacation. Also, many parents are eligible for a family leave time through their employers.

What are the expenses?

Because this is a program operated by missionaries, the fees will be kept as low as possible. The fees will include the agency fee, a donation to the orphanage, the social worker's fees and the attorney's fee to conduct the adoption.
